Nursery & Reception – Angelfish & Dolphin Classes

Welcome to Early Years

We are made up of Angelfish (Nursery) and Dolphin Class (Reception). We have so much fun playing and learning together in our Early Years unit. We enjoy spending time reading, drawing, creating, singing, building, imagining and exploring together with our friends and teachers!

The Early Years Foundation Stage (or EYFS) is made of up 7 key areas of learning. These are:

  • Literacy
  • Maths
  • Physical Development
  • Communication and language
  • Understanding the world
  • Expressive Arts and Design
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Your child will have the opportunity to develop in all of these areas through carefully planned activities and lessons, all linked to the main topic.

PE

All children in Early Years participate in a weekly PE lesson. Children will need their come to school in their PE Kits on PE Days. Please ask the class teacher for information on when these are.

Reading

We expected all children to read their school book on Thursday. Reading books are changed on Monday and children choose a library book to share at home. Children who read regularly at home are rewarded with special prizes. Lots of practise will ensure your children make progress with reading and as a result, across the rest of the curriculum as well.

Highlights of our last school year

In our first term of the school year, Reception had lots of visitors who came to tell us all about their very important jobs. We had a visit from a vet, a dentist, some police officers, some paramedics and some firefighters. The best bit was writing a postcard that we put in the post box. It was so exciting when they were delivered to our houses!

The Very Hungry Caterpillar really got Nursery chatting! It was brilliant to see them retelling the story so clearly.

Nursery and Reception both joined in a fantastic Nativity play at Christmas time. It was amazing how well we all learnt the songs, dances and even had a go at saying some lines! Our teachers and families were very proud of us!

Nursery had an amazing time exploring colours and experimented with different ways to make colours. They found out so many interesting things!
