Physical Education

We support excellence in Physical Education through promoting healthy active lifestyles, engaging in competitive activities and developing determination to excel in a broad range of PE.

PE lessons cover a range of physical activities such as Movement and Dance, Gymnastics, Games, Athletics and Swimming (Years 2-4).

At St George’s we offer a range of Sports Clubs at different times in the school day.

In 2013-14, children have participated in the following clubs:

  • KS1 & KS2 Cheerleading
  • KS1 & KS2 Football
  • Hockey
  • Basketball
  • Gymnastics
  • Multi-skills
  • Dance
  • Summer sports
  • KS1 & KS2 Zumba

Children have also participated in a range of physical activities promoting healthy lifestyles:

  • Gum Boot Dancing during Multicultural Week (September 2013)
  • Healthy Week (March 2014) – Tennis, Karate and a visit from Green Ape
  • Cricket Coaching from WCC (Summer Term 2014)
  • Free tickets to Worcester County Cricket ‘New Road’ ground – Worcestershire v Hampshire
  • Year 4 visit to Aztec Water Sports
  • Cheerleading display in Redditch Town Centre for the Cycling Series
  • Activ8, Jimbo Fun, Write Dance
  • Nursery Pedal Push

Children have also competed in intra-school and inter-school competitions and festivals:

  • Sports Days (July 2014)
  • Cross Country (June 2014)
  • Football Tournament (June- July 2014)
  • Gymnastics Festival for Year 1 and 2 (March 2014)
  • Invasion Games Festival

Key Stage 1

  • Master basic movement, eg running, jumping, throwing, catching, balance, agility and co-ordination
  • Participate in team games
  • Perform dances using simple movement
  • Swimming proficiency at 25m (KS1 or KS2)

Key Stage 2

  • Use running, jumping, catching and throwing in isolation and in combination
  • Play competitive games, modified as appropriate
  • Develop flexibility & control in gym, dance, games & athletics
  • Compare performances to achieve personal bests
  • Swimming proficiency at 25m (KS1 or KS2)
