Learning at St George's
Mathematics teaches us how to make sense of the world around us through developing a child’s ability to calculate, to reason and to solve problems. It enables children to understand and appreciate relationships and pattern in both number and space in their everyday lives.
Our Vision for Maths
We believe that all children can succeed in mathematics. Our focus is on raising standards – working together in close partnership with families to show what pupils are capable of and finding effective ways to enable every child to succeed in understanding the maths they will need and in developing enjoyment and enthusiasm for this subject. We will achieve this through the use of practical equipment and visual representations (objects, pictures and diagrams) alongside numbers and symbols.
- Recalling and applying knowledge rapidly and accurately
- Making connections between areas of mathematics
- Reasoning mathematically by following a line of enquiry, conjecturing relationships and generalisations, and developing an argument, justification or proof using mathematical language
- Solving problems by applying their mathematics to a variety of routine and non-routine problems with increasing sophistication, including breaking down problems into a series of simpler steps and persevering in seeking solutions.
We have adopted the White Rose Maths Hub Calculation Policy.
