Our Recent Ofsted Inspection - February 2024

Requires Improvement

We are proud to share that our recent Ofsted inspection recognised the significant improvements we have made at St George's C of E First School and Nursery. The inspection found that four out of five key areas were judged as 'Good', with inspectors highlighting many strengths across our school.

What the inspectors said about us:

"The school is unwavering in its pursuit of continual improvement."

"Pupils behave well in lessons and around the school. They display highly positive attitudes. In lessons, pupils are curious, engaged and enthusiastic about their learning."

"Relationships between staff and pupils are warm and nurturing. Pupils feel safe."

Our Key Strengths:

High-Quality Curriculum

The school has constructed a "high-quality, ambitious and well-sequenced curriculum from Nursery to Year 4" that breaks learning down into small steps, ensuring teachers know precisely what to teach and when.

Reading

"Reading has a high priority at this school. Staff are well trained to deliver the phonics programme consistently well." The school has successfully cultivated a love of reading through diverse, suitable texts.

Early Years

"In the early years, children develop strong foundations for their future learning. There is a sharp focus on building children's vocabulary."

Strong Personal Development

Pupils benefit from a strong personal development programme woven throughout the curriculum. Our values of respect, responsibility, compassion, honesty and forgiveness guide pupils throughout all aspects of school life.

Effective Safeguarding

"The arrangements for safeguarding are effective." Pupils feel safe and know they can share concerns with any adult in school.

What We're Working On:

The inspection identified two specific areas for development:

- Ensuring consistency in our new mathematics curriculum implementation

- Refining our assessment procedures across all subjects to better identify and address individual learning needs

We have already begun work on these areas and are committed to continuous improvement for all our pupils.
