Hazel Class Message – 15.05.20

Hi Hazel Class!
I hope you know how much I miss every single one of you as I know how much you will be missing the adults and other children at our special school. It is not quite the same trying to make the cats giggle at me but they obviously don’t find the same things funny as we do! They don’t seem to enjoy their daily reminders to “underline and miss a line – uhum, not naming any names!” They certainly don’t appear to enjoy my singing or dancing but I know that you would if you could see me.
I can’t wait to be back in my ‘spinny’ chair, welcoming you into our colourful classroom, listening to your bonkers stories and looking at your fabulous home- creations. It’s been ages since anyone made me something amazing out of toilet roll or drew me a beautiful picture. I hope some of you still occasionally put on your coats, wander around the room and think about who can do their ‘times tables’ the quickest. I can imagine others have got a few new dance moves to show me and a brilliant story or book to explain to me. I wonder if your walls at home are slowly becoming covered in beautifully hand-written spellings or perfectly lined up columnar addition/subtraction/multiplication calculations!
I hope some of you still get excited to point out where someone uses a pronoun or a clever fronted adverbial! I wonder how many of you have any new words to add to my collection; ‘irrigation’ and ‘orphanage’ are probably getting a tad lonely nowadays. Anyway, my biggest hope is that you are all feeling well, looking after yourselves and your families and are happy. Each day is different and sometimes I just feel fed up but I know that one day very soon, we will see each other again and you will make me feel really happy. You are all so special to me. You have so many talents and I am so proud of what you achieved in the time we already had together.
In case you are wondering, to keep myself busy, I am trying out lots of different hobbies. Exercise can always be fun so I sometimes wear silly, colourful outfits when I go for a run along the canal. It’s fun to make others smile when we are all feeling a bit bored! I’ve been teaching myself how to crochet using tutorials on YouTube and it is even more tricky being left-handed, I’m sure. I still love reading all sorts of books and thinking about why the writer chose that idea. We do love to change these ideas sometimes to give us a different ending, don’t we? I speak to my family everyday and I bet some of you are wondering how my sister’s new baby is doing! He is looking wonderful and chubby and I can’t wait to see him again when life settles back to normal.
I know that you are going to be bursting with things to tell me and show me. It is making me smile thinking about seeing you again and I hope you know that I am thinking of you even though I may seem a bit far away. I miss you all so much, you silly bunch of water-vowels!
Love from Miss Round
